Open Wheeler Spectacular @ Rosedale International Speedway
This Saturday night Rosedale Speedway will host their annual “Open Wheeler” night, with an action packed program including the ground pounding SDAV Hot Rods, Wingless Sprints, Compact Speedcars, VSC Mini Sprints, Limited Sportsman & a special display from the Vintage Speedcars
The SDAV Hot Rods will be contesting a round of their “Thunder Down Under” series which will see a quality field of Rods led by current state champion Jason Kavanah.  The super impressive Kavanah was is white hot form last time out at Rosedale with a sizzling new lap record of 17.70 which will see him enter as the man to beat come Saturday Night.  Whilst Kavanah has dominated the Hot Rod ranks for the best part of the last decade, the rest of the field have stepped it up a notch this year and will be hell bent on taking it right up to the Western suburbs throttle stomper.  Mary-Knoll’s Dean West in the Pitcher Chassis #4 has shown very consistent early season form, including a victory at Baccus Marsh back in December & is sure to be towards the pointy end on Saturday.  Another driver in some rare form is Eddie Ivermee who was a last start winner at Laang Speedway in the Aaron Peel owned #24.  At the time we go to print Ivermee is an unconfirmed starter but is certainly one to keep an eye on should he saddle up come Saturday Night.  Phil Jenkins, Kali & Russ Hovey, the evergreen legend of the sport Ray Welsh and a host of other beautifully presented Hot Rods will be on hand to ensure one cracker of a nights racing.

Compact Speedcars will be out in force to do battle for the coveted “Curran Memorial”.  Herb Hecker looms as the man to beat after his last start feature win at Ballarat’s Redline Raceway.  Brad Day is enjoying some consistency out of his Kawasaki powered ride and is always going to give you a run for your money.  Mike Griffiths & Keith Astrella have a busy week ahead of them to get their racecars back in shape after a spine tingling crash last weekend and Warren Gravina will be looking to back up his solid finish last time out also.  Compacts always provide edge of your seat racing and at the high speed half mile “D” there is sure to be plenty of thrills & spills yet again.

The ever growing Wingless Sprint division will be out in force again, with no less than 20 stars & their cars set to sling some clay your way in what has become one of the most popular categories in speedway history.  With a rock solid rule book that provides extremely close racing every time they hit the track and some super talented drivers, you are sure to get your monies worth from these guys right through-out the evening.

Supported by VSC Mini Sprints, Limited Sportsman & a Vintage Speedcar display, the action is sure to be thick and fast from the Grand Parade to the Final Victory lap so don’t miss a minute of the action and get down to Gippslands home of Motor Sport, Rosedale International Speedway.

Gates open 2pm, racing from 5.30pm family $50.00, adults $20.00, kids and aged 12-16 $10.00.

15/12/2011t’s starting to look a lot like Christmas.
Rosedale Santa truant effort again this year those kids just keep coming and coming. Great start to the race season with our camp quality night raising $ 5168.50.
We have members, who put in there all at the working bees, would be great to get some of the new families involved,
All-stars Sprint car night!!  Woo how lucky we were,
“Old Hughie up there was definitely playing his hand of cards for us”
The Zone feature final Re-Run will be held at the Easter Meeting.

Solomon wins Rosedale
On a rain shortened A Main the Fire Service Plus Sprintcar All Stars Series trip to Rosedale Speedway was finished before they would have liked. Chris Solomon’s #V83 led the race for the entire 20 laps. Lined up on the front row with Simon Amato’s #V28 Cool Solomon showed his ability from the start. ACT15 Harley Bishop’s JB Motorsport Maxim started in 5th and quickly moved up to 2nd with only 1 lap down. He showed Solomon he was there a couple of times but Solomon wasn’t going to give in easily. Brooks V97 running third and Wayne Logue’s V66 fourth for the majority of the race until Brooks right rear let go bringing on the yellows with V66 Wayne Logue becoming involved. Logue having to go to the rear for a second push. Logue had been one of the movers on the night with great speed shown from his Ford powered Maxim.  Unfortunately for the Ron Jones Racing V97 it was the end of their night. Bishop had an uncharacteristic moment in turn 4 and bought on the yellows. With the line up ready to go the rain started and the race declared.
“We got 20 laps of our main in and the drizzle started – just a bit but enough to make us call the event, weight the top 5 cars and then clouds opened – so we were kind lucky to get this far.” Searle says. “The storms that hit Geelong and Melbourne finally blew to Rosedale. We got a bit of warning as the wind became cool and the lightening show in the distance got closer. We reprogrammed the night, skipped interval and nearly made it – just not quite. But hey – we had another great feature race and an awesome crowd so we cannot complain too much.”
Heat wins                      – Wayne Logue, Chris Solomon, Colin Brooks, and Keke Falland.
Pole Shoot Out             – Simon Amato

Final Placing’s   – Chris Solomon, Simon Amato, Keke Falland, Peter Logue, Tony Moule, Mark Noonan, Phil Lock, Mark Weaver, Wayne Logue, Brad Foster, Harley Bishop, Colin Brooks-DNF, Paul Solomon – DNF, Shaun Forrell – DNF, Scott Irons – DNF, Owen Bulman - DNF

The new generator is in its place but all is needed to be done is run it up and test it . Thanks to Transall Motors for the work they did (Head gaskets, Water pump seal, ect) and the members that helped remove the old and replace the new gen in place. The people that spent so much time finding the new gen and a Special thanks to all the businesses that loaned money to the club so we could require the generator now.

The Monster Trucks was a big event with thousands of people there, but the weather was poor with rain all day with the effect of the cyclone in QLD effecting our weather. It stopped when the show began, we as a club provided the venue and car parking people ect thank you for all your help.

A new update on generator
The new one which was second hand of course for $14000, we were looking at had an oil sample taken and tested but failed, with too  much copper found in the oil sample so we were all disappointed and we started to look for another Generator. Peter Logue found another one and took some members and Ray Daly (a truck mechanic) down to look and start it. A oil sample taken again and she passed but with all good stories there has to be a but, She needed work, Head gasket and a water pump seal and extra’s. Purchase price of $13000 repair bill estimated around $2000 She is younger machine with a Cummins engine so . We are hoping to have her install soon but we still have the back up Generator if needed .
